| 10051 |  | Obituary- St. Louis, Wanda 3 Wanda Eileen St. Louis Wanda Eileen St. Louis, 85, passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at her home in Topeka. She was born June 8, 1926, at Rossville, the daughter of the late Walter and Ida Lorraine “Rena” Marney Patton. Eileen grew up in the Rossville community and attended Rossville schools. Mrs. St. Louis worked as a bookkeeper for Bauersfeld’s IGA and later for Sutton’s Grocery in North Topeka until she retired. Eileen was a member of Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church in Topeka. She also was a member of the Citizen Band Potawatomi Nation of Shawnee, Okla. She loved her family and considered their welfare as her most important concern. On Feb. 2,1968, she was united in marriage to Charles L. St. Louis. He preceded her in death Nov. 30,2008. Mrs. St. Louis was also preceded in death by brothers Osto, Kermit and Cleo “Pete” Patton and sisters Donic Parr, Juanita Foresman, Hope Meade and Nora Dell Foresman. Survivors include sons, James W. Lemon of El Dorado, Ark., Joel Robert Lemon of Topeka, Charles L. St Louis Jr. of Mililani, Hawaii, and Jerrol O. Lemon of Topeka; and a daughter, Jennifer Comstock and husband Bill of Topeka. Additional survivors include grandsons, Jason O. Lemon, Cody St. Louis and Connor St. Louis; granddaughters, Melissa A. Comstock. Lauri L. Comstock, Susan L. Tolin, Candice Pritchard and Nicole St. Louis; and six great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 19 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville. | 10052 |  | Obituary- Stach, Anna Mrs. Stach Died in Kansas City Mrs. Anna Stach, widow of John Stach, a resident of Jackson county since 1808, died Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the home of her son Louis Stach in Argentine, Kansas. Mrs. Stach had been an invalid for the past five years. During the last month she was unconscious except at intervals. The deceased was a native of Czeche-Slovakia, where she was born January 6, 1838, at Cichov, Moravia. She came to America in 1861, locating near Newman, Kansas. She was united in marriage to John Stach shortly after her arrival at Leavenworth, Kan. In 1868 the family moved to Jackson county where Mrs. Stach remained until 1917, she went to live with her son Louis in Argentine. At the time of her death she was aged 88 years, 3 months and 26 days. The body was brought to Rossville this morning and the funeral held in the Presbyterian church at 1 p.m. conducted by Rev. Pouker, a Lutheran minister from Kansas City. Interment was made in the family lot in Rossville cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John Ausherman, of Delia, Mrs. Frank Mongold, of Newman, and four sons, John Stach of Delia, Joe Stach, of Cactus, Ariz., Louis Stach, of Argentine, and Will Stach of Topeka; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Verla, of Temple, Texas, Mrs. Slacik, of Corning, Mo., and Mrs. Vernnika Kovar, of Rossville | |
| 10053 |  | Obituary- Stach, August 1 August L. Stach August L. Stach, 89, Rossville, died Wednesday, June 7, 1989, at a Topeka hospital. Mr. Stach was a farmer and stockman. He was born Sept. 16, 1899, north¬east of Rossville, the son of Frank and Frances Smatla Stach. He spent his life in the Rossville community. Mr. Stach was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Delia, a 50-year member of the ZCBJ Lodge No. 128 and a 40-year member of Jim¬mie Lillard American Legion Post No. 31, both in Rossville, and a member of the Good Neighbors Or¬ganization. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Stach was married to Lydia Penaz Scott Nov. 18, 1964, in Man¬hattan. She survives. Also surviving are two brothers, Frank Stach and Bennie Stach, both of Rossville. Services will be at 2 p.m. Satur¬day at the Presbyterian Church in Delia. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Jimmie Lillard American Legion Post No. 31 at the Czech-Moravian Cemetery northeast of Rossville. Mr. Stach will lie in state after 2 p.m. today at Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys, where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. today. | |

Stach was born September 16, 1899 to Frank and Frances Smatla Stach and died June 7, 1989 at Veterans Hospi¬tal in Topeka. Funeral services were held at Delia Presbyterian Church, June 9, with interment at Czech Moravan Cemetery. August married Lydia Penaz Scott, November 18, 1964. He was a farmer and served in the army in World War 2 and was a 50-year member of our lodge. Survivors include his wife, Lydia; two brothers, Frank Stach and Bernie Stach, both of Rossville and nieces and nephews. On behalf of Lodge No. 128 I extend sincere sympathy to the bereaved family. | 10055 |  | Obituary- Stach, Benjamin 1 Two youths die in crash Two youths died of injuries received in a one-car accident shortly before midnight Friday on the Rossville-Delia road. The accident occurred five miles north of Rossville. Dead are Benjamin M. Stach, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Stach, and Donald R. Frederick, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Frederick, Rossville. Bennie was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, while the Frederick youth died Satur¬day in a Topeka hospital. The car left the blacktop road and plunged into a ditch. There was a heavy fog at the time. It was reported there were no skid marks, and it appeared the car left the highway gradually. Funeral services for Bennie were held Monday at the Ross-ville Presbyterian Church with interment in the Moravian Cem-etery. The funeral Mass for Donald was celebrated Tuesday morn¬ing at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Delia, with interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys. Bennie Stach, a senior at Rossville High School, was born March 13, 1949. He was an ac¬tive member of the Rossville Presbyterian Church, president of the Rossville High School FFA chapter, and a member of the football squad. Survivors include his parents: Mr. and Mrs. Ben Stach; a brother, Robert, a student a Kansas State University; a sister, Sherri Ann Stach, of the home; and a grandmother: Mrs. Katie Hundertfund, Topeka. Donald Richard Frederick was born Oct. 3, 1948, and was a 1966 graduate of Delia High School. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Delia, where he served as an altar boy for ten years. | |

Stach IT IS with great sadness that I report the death of Bro. Benjamin Martin Stach, 17, who passed away Nov 4, 1966 in an automobile accident. He was born Mar. 13, 1949 near Rossville, Kans., son of Bro. and Sis. Ben Stach. The principal of Rossville High School, where Benjamin was a senior, canceled classes on the day of the funeral. Benjamin was an active member of the Rossville Presbyterian Church where he was treasurer of the Sunday School. He was president of the P.P.A. Chapter of Rossville High School, a member of the football squad, and served a year as student manager of the football team. He had been a mem¬ber of our Lodge over 17 years. There have been members of the Stach family in our Lodge ever since it was organized. Funeral services were held Nov. 7, 1966 at the Rossville Presbyterian Church with interment in the Moravian Cemetery. Members of the senior class were pall bearers. Surviving are his parents; a brother, Robert who is a student at Kansas State University; a sister, Sherri Ann at home; grandmother, Mrs. Katie Hundertfund of Topeka, Kans., and many relatives and friends. Louis Holaday, principal of Rossville High School, announced Saturday classes will be canceled Monday at Rossville High where Benjamin Stach was a senior. Benjamin Stach was born March 13, 1949 near Rossville and spent most of his life in the Rossville community. He was a member of the Rossville Presbyterian Church where he was treasurer for the Sunday school. He was a member of ZCBJ Lodge No. 128 near Rossville. He was president of the Future Farmers of America chapter at Rossville High School. He was a football player and served a year as student manager of the Rossville High School football team. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Stach, at home; a brother, Robert B. Stach, Manhattan; a sister, Sherri Ann Stach, at home; and a grandmother, Mrs. Katie E. Hundertfund, 1303 N. Kansas. The casket will remain closed at the church. Burial will be in Moravian Cemetery north of Rossville. Memorial contributions may be made to Rossville Presbyterian Church. Delia Church Services Set For Youth, 18 Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Delia for Donald Richard Frederick, 18, who lived north of Rossville in Jack- son County, who died Saturday in a Topeka hospital of injuries suffered in a one-car accident on a county road five miles north of Rossville shortly before midnight Friday. He was born Oct. 3, 1948 in Topeka and spent most of his life in the community between Rossville and Delia. He was a 1966 graduate of Delia High School. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Delia. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph S. Frederick, at home; a brother, Joseph L. Frederick, at home; two sisters, Marie Frederick, Holton, and Iona Frederick, at home; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Hladky, at home, and Mrs. Sophia Frederick, Oklahoma City, Okla. | 10060 |  | Obituary- Stach, Benjamin E. 2 BENJAMIN E. “BENNIE” STACH Benjamin E. “Bennie” Stach, Rossville, age 90, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, at Lexington Park in Topeka. He was born Dec. 17, 1916, on the Stach homestead north of Rossville, the son of Frank and Frances Smatla Stach. Bennie lived all of his life within one-half mile of where he was born. Bennie was a farmer and stockman. He was a member of the Rossville Presbyterian Church. He also was a member of the ZCBJ Lodge No. 128 where he was serving as president and had served in that office for over 36 years. Mr. Stach was the treasurer of the Czech Moravan Cemetery. He and his wife Arlis, along with Bill and Tina Olejnik, were caretakers of the cemetery for many years. Bennie was an honorary member of the FFA. Mr. Stach was preceded in death by two brothers, August and Frank. He also was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin, on Nov. 4, 1966. On Aug. 16, 1944, he was united in marriage to Arlis Hundertfund at Lawrence. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Sherri and Vern Gannon, Manhattan; a son, Dr. Robert and Marilyn Stach, Raymore, Mo.; grandchildren, Ryan, Justin and Chris Stach and Nicole Gannon. Funeral services were held at Fri¬day, Aug. 31, at the Rossville Presbyterian Church. Interment was in the Czech Moravan Cemetery north of Rossville. | 10061 |  | Obituary- Stach, Frances IN LOVING MEMORY OF Frances Smatla Stach was born in the village of Pozechov in Moravia, Czechoslovakia on January 5, 1875 and departed this life on June 15, 1951 at the age of 76 years, 5 months, and 10 days. She arrived in this country at the age of 19 and was united in marriage to Frank Stach on November 16, 1897. On November 16, 1947 Mr. and Mrs. Stach celebrated their Golden Wed¬ding Anniversary. To this union were born 3 children, August L. Stach of the home, Frank H. Stach, and Benjamin E. Stach of Rossville, Kansas. She is also survived by her husband, Frank Stach of Rossville and two brothers, Thomas Smatla of Silver Lake, Kansas and Paul Smatla of Moravia, Czechoslovakia. She also leaves 4 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of neighbors and friends. She was a member of the Czech Presbyterian church located south of Delia, Kansas. Mrs. Stach was a lover of God’s gift of beauty in the form of flowers and her devotion to God and concern of her husband and family were always foremost in her daily life. “May she who served Him in Life Rest in His Eternal Peace.” Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Delia Presbyterian church with the Rev. Ivan Rundus officiating. Music was furnished by Rev. and Mrs. Rundus, Milan Hejtmanek, Cecil Zlatnik [sic], with Evelyn Zlatnik [sic] accompanying at the piano. Pallbearers were, Frank Hejtmanek [sic], Frank Matyak, Bennie Martinek, J.E. Badura, J.W. Olejnik [sic], Sr., and Ignac Horak [sic]. Burial was in the Moravian cemetery. | |

Frank Stach, Sr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Stach was born May 24, 1877 north of Rossville and de¬parted this life on August 14, 1957, at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 21 days. At the time of his death he resided at a location which was only a half mile from where he was born. He was united in marriage to Frances Smatla on November 16, 1897. On November 16, 1947, Mr. and Mrs. Stach celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary. To this union were born three sons: August L. Stach, of the home, Frank H. Stach and Benjamin E. Stach of Rossville, Kansas. He also leaves five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of neighbors and friends. His wife preceded him in death on June 15, 1951. In his early days he was an active member and elder of the Czech Presbyterian Church which was located north of Rossville. He also was a charter member of the ZCBJ Lodge No. 128. Funeral services wore Sunday at the Rossville Presbyterian Church, Rev. Don Evans, minister. Mrs. Mary Jane Berkey was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Lulu Hill. Pall¬bearers were Joe Frederick, John Kratina, Frank Matyak, Bennie Martinek, Ignac Horak, and Joe Badura. Burial was in Czech Mor¬avian Cemetery. He was born August 12, 1915, in rural Shawnee County, the son of Frank and Frances Smatla Stach. He was a lifelong resident and farmer in the Rossville and Delia communities. Frank served in the United States Army in Italy and North Africa in the 91st Infantry Divi¬sion for three years during World War II. He was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church, ZCBJ Lodge #128 in Rossville, Philip Billard Post 1650 of the V.F.W., and the 91st Infan¬try Association. He married Winifred Decker November 14, 1943, in Corvallis, OR. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Virginia Meyer, Ross-ville; and a brother, Bennie Stach, Rossville; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A daugh¬ter, Marilyn K. Schmitz, died No¬vember 27, 1994. His service was at 2 p.m. Sat¬urday, at the Rossville United Methodist Church. | 10064 |  | Obituary- Stach, Frank H. 2 Victim of tractor accident identified ROSSVILLE - The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday identified 84-year-old Frank Stach, of Rossville, as the man killed in a farm accident Tuesday in a field north of town. Stach was killed when the farm tractor he was driving on an incline overturned on top of him, said Sher¬iff’s Capt. Rick Hladky. Authorities were called at about 6:30 p.m. to the scene where the acci¬dent occurred — a field about five miles north of Rossville, in the 8800 block of N.W. Carlson Road. It wasn’t known how long Stach had been underneath the tractor before rescue crews arrived. Rossville Fire Department Chief Wilbur Stum Jr. said Stach was declared dead at the scene. Stach lived in Rossville but owned the property where the accident occurred, authorities said. Obituary information provided to The Topeka Capital-Journal indicat¬ed he farmed his entire life in the Rossville and Delia communities. Frank Stach ROSSVILLE — Frank H. | 10065 |  | Obituary- Stach, Frank H. 3 Rossville Man Killed When Tractor Overturns from Topeka “Capital-Journal” Frank Stach, 84, died Tuesday evening, September 7, 1999, when his farm tractor overturned on top of him in a field north of town, au¬thorities said. He was driving on an incline at the time of the accident. Rossville Fire Department Chief Wilbur Stum Jr. said Stach was pronounced dead at the scene. Rossville first-responders were notified of the accident at about 6:30 p.m., Stum said, but he didn’t know how long Stach was under¬neath the tractor before rescue crews arrived. The accident occurred in the 8800 block of NW Carlson Road. Rossville first-responders and Shawnee County sheriff’s deputies arrived soon after the 911 call but quickly determined the man had died. Ambulance crews were called off en route. Mr. Stach resided in Rossville but owned the property where the accident occurred, Stum said. An official with the Shawnee County coroner’s office was at the scene Tuesday evening investigat¬ing and photographing the accident, Stum said. She was born Aug. 13, 1913, in Delia, the daughter of Joseph and Rosa Kratina Penaz. She was gradu¬ated from Delia High School and at¬tended Brown-Mackie College in Salina. Mrs. Stach had been a teacher and worked at Camp Phillips Air Force Base in Salina. She worked for Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Co., in Manhattan several years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Delia, United Presbyterian Women, the auxiliary to Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville, and Loyal Chapter No. 178, Order of Eastern Star, in Silver Lake. (Shawnee, Okla., Morning News) Frank Stackhouse of 223 North Union Street, Shawnee, was killed and two Oklahoma City men injured in a boiler explosion in the Oklahoma City oil field last night (Thursday, Oct. 31.) Stackhouse was an employee of the B. and A. Drilling company and was working between two boilers on a lease west of the I. T. I. O. plant when the explosion occurred. Geo McNevens and Frank Brumley, both of Oklahoma City, were injured, although not seriously. Stackhouse was thrown against the second boiler by the explosion and scalded severely by the escaping steam. It is thought he died almost instantly. The explosion occurred about 9 o’clock last night. Celestine Stackhouse, a daughter, was notified of the accident while partaking in Hallowe’en merry-making here last night and left immediately for Oklahoma City with her mother. His wife was still married to her husband, Dennis, and got a divorce in 1871. On the January, 30th 1880, his second marriage was to Telia JACKSON, in Kansas. Their children were: Maggie, Dora Elizabeth, George Thomas, and Grover Cleveland. Maggie died in infancy. He was a stone mason by trade. He came West in 1890, worked on the Salt Lake Temple as a stone mason. He moved to Goldendale in 1896, where he spent the rest of his life. During his residence, he served the city as Marshall for a number of years. He was also an Alderman. He died the 25th of January, 1920 at the age of 73 years. Alfreda also taught school at Sacred Heart School where she retired in 1977. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Altar Society at the church, and Philip Billard Post #1650 of the V.F.W. She married John Stadler in Atlanta, Georgia on November 25, 1943. He preceded her in death on August 6, 2000. A daughter, Margaret Marie Stadler died on April 18, 1948. Alfreda is survived by two sons, John Edward Stadler and Richard Alfred Stadler and wife Karen and one daughter Roberta I. Stadler all of Topeka. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Greg and Amanda. I thought her only connection was her marriage to John who was raised in Rossville. But, I was talking to their son yesterday and he said that Alfreda taught at Lipp School SE of Rossville. An interesting thing he told me. She was an indentured servant from the age of 7 to 18. I had never heard of indentured servants after the colonial times. I wouldn't believe him until he showed me documents he had finally gotten from the state of Minn, though they were not supposed to be released until after 100 years. I am guessing they had more children available than they could adopt out, so this was a way for the state to avoid raising the kids. If they didn't work hard or well enough they could be turned back in and indentured to someone else. Most were boys sent to work on farms. Back then, even free kids in rural areas often didn't go to school more than 4-8 years. No child labor laws back then. The indenture contract specified that upon their 18th birthday, they were to be given their freedom, S100, and two sets of clothing. She passed away at Topeka, Friday, January 20, 1933, at the advanced age of 88 years, and 26 days. She was one of a family of ten children, of whom only three survive her. There are two sisters, Mrs. George Smith, and Mrs. W. W. Morgan, both of Rossville, and a brother, Milton Osborn of Deerfield, Kansas. She was married to John Stadler about 1900, but he departed this life a number of years ago. She has been a citizen of this community and County since 1882, and has many friends and relatives who regret her passing, though they appreciate her long life of unselfishness among us. She was always frail and in poor health, yet she did her part, and made her contribution to the community life. Brief funeral services were held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Horton. A ladies quartet composed of Mrs. Belva Jane Butters, Mrs. Minnie Navarre, Mrs. E. E. Witter and Miss Lucille Griswold, with Miss Edith Higginbotham at the piano, furnished the music. The pall bearers were E. G. Griswold, W. E. Ellis, R. R. Hawks, J. C. Startup, John Reid and Austin Sebring. Interment was made in the Rossville cemetery. She was born in Blue Rapids, Kansas on September 8,1932, the daughter of Charles and Mary (McClain) Beasley. Mila was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society at the church. Mila enjoyed antiquing, attending the annual ERC Designer Showcase House, shopping and collecting milk glass. Mila's family and grandchildren were very special to her. She worked for twenty-one years at the family liquor store, Stadler Liquor in the Oakland neighborhood. She married Donald Stadler in Topeka, on June 23, 1956 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Donna (Jordan) Rachlen, of Rogers, Arkansas, Mary (Johnny) Lawrence, of Topeka, Charlene Stadler of Overland Park, Kansas; one son, Steve Stadler of Topeka; one brother, Charles (Dorothy) Beasley Jr., of Rochester, Minnesota, two sisters, Florence Nada Cowherd of Rossville, Kansas and Mary Jo (Ron) Cowles of Seymour, Tennessee. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mila was preceded in death by a sister Dorothy Bearden. Mila will lie in state on Tuesday after 4:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with interment following in Mount Calvary Cemetery. She was born Feb. 24, 1940 at Richmond the daughter of Joseph Richard and Mary Belle Rousselo Coffey. She was one of nine children born to Joseph Richard and Mary Belle Coffey. Phyllis moved to Rossville at an early age living on a farm west of town with Harry and Etta Gutshall. She graduated from Rossville High School in 1958. Phyllis graduated from Crums Beauty College in Manhattan and had been a cosmetologist for many years, she dearly loved her elderly clients. She was a secretary for Rossville High School. Phyllis was a member of the Rossville Christian Church. She was a homemaker and homeworker. She loved yard work. Mrs. Stadler was active in all of her children’s activities while they were growing up. She had been a Sunday school teacher and a vacation bible school teacher and 4-H leader. Phyllis was an avid sports fan. She was preceded in death by siblings, Sheldon Eugene, Mary Lou, Etta Yvonne, Joseph Richard, Betty Jo and Patricia Jane. Phyllis was also preceded in death by a grand-daughter, Maddison A. Gray. Survivors include her husband David Stadler of the home; two sons Lance (Aida) Stadler, Rossville and Bryant Stadler, Charlotte, NC; her daughter, Lisa (Kevin) Reece, Overbrook; a brother, Fred Coffey; a sister, Shirley Kittto; grandchildren, Montana & Makayla Stadler, Jacob and Aiden Stadler, Matthew Gray, Autumn (Blake) Burks; Audrey (Brian) King, Weston (Kayla) Reece; great-grandchildren, Addison, Briggam, Canton and Elayna. Shirley graduated from Rossville High and married her high school sweetheart, Joseph V. Stadler. The newly married couple moved to Bremerton Washington where they raised 3 children. After Joe retired they spent some years in Phoenix Arizona and Joe died there in 1996. Shirley has since resided in Yakima Washington until her passing. Shirley was a most gracious and loving woman and her family was everything to her. She was also a proud DAR member until she was into her 80s. She survived by her son Larry Joe Stadler and his wife, Donna, who live in Wickenberg Arizona; and daughter Barbara Lorene Thomas who resides in Centralia Washington. There is one surviving sister, Thelma Martin of Topeka Kansas and numerous other family members. Her son Walter Lee Stadler died in Harrington Maine in 2011 and a grandson, Scott Stadler died in Yakima Washington in 1982. Shirley and Joe’s 3 children blessed them with 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren. She was their “GG” and she will be missed. Sue was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and very devoted to her faith. She was born December 31, 1918 at Rossville, the daughter of Shirley and Edna James Parr. Mrs. Stadler attended all 12 grades of school in Rossville. She was united in marriage to George Stadler on May 6,1939. They moved to Bremerton, WA. In 1945 they returned to Rossville and farmed for 16 years. She then worked as a bookkeeper for Rossville Truck & Tractor for 20 years until her retirement. She moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1991, then to Tucson. Mrs. Stadler moved to Alamogordo, NM, in 2004 where she lived with her daughter Rose and her husband Fred Brown. She moved to Wamego in 2006 where she lived until entering Rossville Manor. Mrs. Stadler was a member of the Rossville Christian Church. Mrs. Stadler was preceded in death by her husband George on September 17, 2004. She was also preceded in death by infant twin daughters and a daughter, Helen Huffman on July 26,2006. Survivors include two sons, David G. (Phyllis) Stadler, Rossville, and James P. (Warrene) Stadler, Silver Lake; a daughter, Rose M. | 10095 |  | Obituary- Stalker, Clinton Clinton L. Stalker Dr. Clinton L. Stalker, DDS, Satanta, formerly of Topeka, died Monday, Feb. 3, 1992, at a Satanta nursing home. Dr. Stalker, 86, was a dental surgeon in Topeka for 37 years before he retired in 1973. He was an oral surgery consultant at Topeka Veterans Administration Hospital and a former staff member of Stormont- Vail and St. Francis hospitals, all in Topeka. He was born April 17, 1905, at Adrian, in Jackson County, the son of Winfred A. and Frances Anna Ward Stalker. He was graduated from Rossville High School and attended Kansas State Agricultural College for three years in Manhattan. He later was principal of public schools at Willard, then in 1926 entered the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry at Philadelphia. He was graduated in 1930 with a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. Dr. Stalker was a member and elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Topeka and attended the United Methodist Church in Satanta. He was a past member and officer of Shawnee County Dental Society, First District Dental Society and Kansas State Dental Association and a former member of American Dental Association. He was married to Ruth Wilma Van Orsdol June 2, 1932, at Lawrence. She died Aug. 9, 1977. A son, Norman V. Stalker, also preceded him in death. Survivors include a son, Dr. Clinton L. Stalker Jr., DVM, Satanta; a sister, Mrs. I.S. Lauch, Woodland, Calif.; a brother, Dr. F.O. Stalker, DDS, El Paso, Texas; and five grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the United Methodist Church in Satanta. Later memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Westminster Presbyterian Church in Topeka. Stalker, in Jackson county, Kansas, at 1 o'clock p.m., March 3, 1879. Edward Lewelling Stalker was born in Bedford, Lawrence county, Indiana, Nov. 6, 1856. But while still a babe his parents moved with him to Washington county, Ind., where his childhood days were passed until September, 1869, when, with his parents, he came to Jackson county, Kansas. On that occasion, although not quite thirteen years old, he drove a team all. the way from Indiana here -'a wearisome journey of nearly 700 miles .... When seven years old he was attacked with scrofula in the hip, from which he did not recover for three years. At fourteen years of age he was again afflicted - this time with white swelling in the knee, suffering with it, more or less for five years. The last four years of his life he was not able to walk without crutches. About a year ago he was attacked with hemorrhage of the lungs .... The funeral services, conducted by Rev. A. D. Stalker, step-father of the world’s heavyweight pugilistic champion, Jess Willard, at the home of a daughter in Delia, Kan. Mr. Stalker had been for a number of years a resident of Quinton Heights. Helping in establishing the Quinton Heights Baptist church nine or ten years ago. Long before the present heavyweight champion was born, Mr. Stalker and Jess’ father lived on adjoining farms in Adrian, a small town located on the edge of the Pottawatomie reservation. Jess’ father died a short time after the present champion was born, and when Jess was 11 years old, his mother and Mr. Stalker married. Jess and his mother then went to live on the Stalker farm. Jess was raised there and it was while there he acquired his great skill at “bronco busting” and “roping, ” which in later years meant great sums of money for him on the vaudeville stage. Mrs. Stalker died in 1908. Mr. Stalker came to Topeka many years ago, and when his step-son was battling against the big black, Jack Johnson, April 5, 1915, for the heavyweight championship of the world, (although being strongly apposed to prize fights, he nevertheless kept in close touch with the local newspaper offices, and when he learned that Jess had won by a knockout in the twenty-sixth round, it is safe to say that there was not a prouder man in Topeka.
